Originally from Japan, ductless heating and cooling systems were introduced to the US about 30 years ago. Sales and popularity have been growing since then. It is an efficient and quiet alternative to traditional central AC and other traditional home heating and cooling options.
Why Should I Install Ductless Heating and Cooling?
Saving Money and Energy
Often called split systems or mini-split systems, ductless heating and cooling is one of the easiest places to save money on your home energy bill. Depending on the size and layout of your space, ductless systems can be more expensive to install.
However, they may reduce your monthly bill by up to 30 percent. In a traditional central air system, you lose energy through leaks and holes in your duct system. A ductless system removes that variable.
Quiet
Ductless systems are quiet. The only thing in your inside unit is a fan and an evaporator. This significantly reduces the noise from the unit turning on and off.
Improved Air Quality
Installing a ductless air conditioner will improve the air quality in your home. Ductwork is one of the top culprits in poor indoor air quality. Dirty ductwork creates in-home pollution by pushing all the dirt, dust, mites and particles that have collected inside the ducts, throughout the house.
Comfort
A ductless air conditioner also functions as a heater. With more temperature options than simply cool, you have more control over keeping the temperature in your home comfortable. It has two systems in one easy-to-install, easy-to-use package.

FAQs
How do ductless mini-splits work?
A ductless mini-split has one indoor and one outdoor unit. These are connected by electrical wiring and refrigerant tubes. Indoor units are installed in individual rooms that blow cooled or heated air into the home. The process basically either moves warm air into the home or out of it. No ductwork is required.
How often do I need to clean my mini-split filters?
You should clean filters once a month at a minimum.
How long do ductless heating and AC units last?
Typically, they last between 15 and 20 years.
Can I use them in place of a central AC?
Yes. You can get multi-zone systems that allow for units to be placed in different rooms of your home.
Where’s the best place to install the unit?
It’s best not to install it on walls that get a lot of sunlight or don’t have good insulation. You should also avoid any place where furniture will block the unit.
